About the project

NewsPulse Project Overview

DeveloperLook designed and built NewsPulse, a mobile news app that brings global news, short video clips, and podcasts into one personal feed. Readers shape it by following topics and channels.

NewsPulse is a mobile news app for people who want global news, videos, and podcasts in one place. It gathers stories from top news channels, trending short news clips, and recommended podcasts. The format is quick to scan and suits casual readers. Our work covered app design and development, plus the brand.

The app runs on 5 tabs: Home, Community, Discover, an AI tab, and Profile. Home greets the reader by name and offers shortcuts to politics, sport, tech, and business, followed by a Recommended Podcast row. Discover opens with a search bar that takes voice input and All, Video, and Podcast filters. Below sit a Top Channel row, Short News clips, and a Following section with stories from followed topics.

Topic and channel pages let readers follow what they care about, and a Weather page pairs the forecast with weather stories. Video pages carry like, share, save, and report actions, a comment thread, and recommendations. In Community, readers join news channels and chat in threads. Profiles list a reader's articles, followers, and drafts.

New accounts finish with a short setup screen for a date and gender, then a confirmation screen with a Get Started button. We also designed the NewsPulse brand: a globe logo, a blue palette, an app icon, and an icon set. A billboard carries the line Stay ahead of the headlines with NewsPulse.

Challenge and solution

What NewsPulse Needed and How We Built It

The challenge

NewsPulse needed a news app that felt fast and personal without losing readers' trust.

The app had to deliver real-time updates without burying people in information. It also had to stay clean and easy to use while it brought articles, short videos, and podcasts into one place.

Our solution

We designed and built a mobile app that sorts articles, short news clips, and podcasts into clear sections.

Format tabs let readers switch between them without leaving the screen, and follow buttons shape each feed around chosen topics and channels. Every story card names its source channel, so readers can judge credibility before they tap.

What we built

Features We Built for NewsPulse

  • Personal Discover feed

Discover combines a Top Channel row, swipeable Short News clips, and a Following section with stories from the topics a reader follows. All, Video, and Podcast filters sit under the search bar.

  • Short news and video

Short news plays as vertical clip cards with the source and view count. The Video tab adds recent and live videos, and each video page has like, share, save, report, and comments.

  • Podcasts and Continue Listening

The Podcast tab shows a For You row of shows and a Continue Listening list. Each show page has its cover, a short description, and every episode with a play button and its length.

  • Topics and channels to follow

An All Topics page covers sport, entertainment, business, politics, technology, travel, games, and fashion. An All Channel list sits beside it, and both use Follow and Following buttons to shape the feed.

  • Search across formats

Search accepts typed or spoken queries and splits results into News, Video, Short, and Podcast tabs. Each result shows its category, headline, publish time, and read time next to a thumbnail.

  • Community channels and chat

The Community tab has For You, Chat, and Channel views. Readers join news channels and talk in threads, and each message supports replies and forwarding, with an emoji bar and a comment box.

  • Profile and drafts

A profile shows counts for articles, followers, and following, an Account Settings button, and the reader's posted stories. A Draft screen keeps unfinished videos and shorts, and a pen button starts a new post.

  • NewsPulse brand identity

The brand pairs a globe logo with a blue palette. It runs through the app icon, a set of line icons, signage, and a billboard that tells people to stay ahead of the headlines.

FAQ

Questions About the NewsPulse Project

  • A mobile news app and its brand. The app covers Home, Discover, Community, and Profile tabs, topic and channel pages, search, a Weather page, video and podcast pages, and account setup. The brand work added the globe logo, the blue palette, the app icon, an icon set, and an outdoor billboard design.

  • Through follows. Readers pick topics such as sport, business, politics, or technology on the All Topics page, and news channels on the All Channel page. The Following section on Discover then shows stories from those topics. Topic pages split stories into Popular and For You, and the Podcast tab adds its own For You row.

  • Yes. All, Video, and Podcast tabs sit under the search bar on Discover, so readers change format without leaving the screen. Search results split into News, Video, Short, and Podcast tabs. Short news clips play as vertical cards, and each podcast show lists its episodes with a play button and the episode length.

  • Every story card names its source channel beside the headline, along with the category, the publish time, and the read time or view count. Readers can follow a channel from the All Channel page to see more of its stories. Video pages also include a report action, so readers can flag a clip that looks wrong.

  • The Community tab has For You, Chat, and Channel views. Readers join news channels, including local news groups, and talk in threads. Each message supports replies and forwarding, and an emoji bar and a comment box sit at the bottom. Video pages carry their own comments too, so discussion stays next to the story.

  • Yes. DeveloperLook designs and builds news and media apps with personal feeds, follow buttons for topics and channels, short video, podcasts, and community chat. We start with who reads your content and which formats you publish. Then we shape the tabs and feeds around that, and we can design your brand assets too.
