LET'S DISCUSSWe had a different kind of problem. People were visiting the store, adding products to their carts, and then disappearing before they finished the order. We had tried a few apps and made changes here and there, but nothing really seemed to solve the bigger issue. The team went through the shopping experience with us and pointed out things we hadn't really noticed ourselves. They cleaned up the cart and checkout flow, made the mobile experience much smoother, and helped us make the store feel easier to shop. I’m not going to pretend we fixed everything overnight, but it finally feels like the store is helping the sale instead of getting in the way of it.

The mobile experience is probably my favourite part of the new site. We had spent a lot of time making sure the desktop version looked right, and the team kept pushing us to think about how everything would actually feel on a phone too. They were right. The navigation is clean, the interactions feel natural, and everything we’ve tested so far works exactly as it should. They also went through the links, forms, integrations, and other details more than once before launch, which I really appreciated. And even after going live, we could still reach out when something came up. The whole process felt friendly, organised, and surprisingly straightforward.

Head of Marketing of Lumen Outdoor
We had a pretty specific idea of what we wanted our website to become, but I wasn’t sure how easily we could explain all of it to a development team. There were quite a few moving parts, and we were working toward a deadline, so I expected a few things to get lost along the way. That never really happened. They understood what we were trying to achieve, kept us updated throughout the process, and got everything ready within the agreed timeline. The final site feels much easier to navigate, works beautifully on mobile, and is noticeably smoother for our customers. It was a huge relief seeing the original idea actually turn into the website we had in mind.

Why Store Owners Trust Us With ADA Compliance
An overlay widget does not make a site accessible, so we fix the underlying code. These are the habits we bring to every ADA compliance website engagement.
Fixes in the code
We repair the theme itself, not paper over it with a widget.
Built on the right standard
We test against WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard courts use.
Real assistive tech testing
We test with screen readers and keyboard only, not just a scanner.
Severity you can act on
Every issue is scored so you know what to fix first.
A documented effort
You get an accessibility statement and a record of what was fixed.
Honest about limits
We tell you what a fix can and cannot guarantee.
08Overview
What does ADA website compliance require, and is an overlay widget enough?
The ADA doesn't publish its own web standard, but courts and DOJ guidance treat WCAG 2.1 AA as the benchmark. Overlay widgets only catch 30 to 40% of issues automatically and can't fix the rest, which is part of why 28% of 2025's accessibility lawsuits targeted sites already running one. We audit your theme and checkout manually and with automated tools, then remediate the code and document it as a good-faith effort.

Who it's for
Businesses that got an ADA demand letter or complaint
You need a documented response and a fast path to remediation.
Stores relying on an accessibility overlay widget
You want to know if it's actually protecting you or making you a target.
Businesses that need a real WCAG 2.1 AA audit and fix, not just a scan
You want the theme and checkout code itself fixed, not a widget on top.
Businesses that want an accessibility statement and ongoing monitoring
You want something to point to if a complaint comes in.
Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce merchants worried about checkout barriers
You're not sure if your filters, cart, or checkout create accessibility risk.
Not a fit for
You only need the WCAG 2.1 AA audit itself, not a full compliance overview. Our WCAG Audit Services page covers that on its own.
You already have your audit results and just need the fixes made. Our Accessibility Remediation Services covers that.
You specifically want the Shopify or ecommerce-focused version covering filters, cart and checkout. Our Shopify Accessibility service covers that.

Does my website need to be ADA compliant?
The ADA doesn't name a specific dollar threshold or business size, but courts have increasingly ruled that ecommerce sites count as places of public accommodation under Title III, and ecommerce already accounts for 69 to 77% of digital accessibility lawsuits. If you sell online, treat this as a real risk rather than an edge case.
Is my website ADA compliant?
The only way to know is to test against WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard courts and DOJ guidance treat as the benchmark, since the ADA itself doesn't publish its own web standard. We run a manual and automated audit against that standard and tell you exactly where you stand.
How to make your website ADA compliant?
Audit the theme, checkout and any apps against WCAG 2.1 AA's four principles (perceivable, operable, understandable, robust), fix what the audit finds at the code level, then publish an accessibility statement documenting your conformance status and known issues.
How much do ADA website compliance services cost?
A WCAG 2.1 AA audit typically starts from $899. Remediation is quoted separately once we know how many issues the audit finds and how they're spread across your theme, checkout and apps.
Does an accessibility overlay make my store compliant?
No. Automated overlay tools only catch about 30 to 40% of WCAG issues and can't fix the rest, since they sit on top of the page rather than changing the underlying code. In 2025, 28% of all digital accessibility lawsuits actually targeted sites already running an overlay, and the FTC fined accessiBe $1 million that year for false compliance claims.
What should I do if I received an ADA demand letter?
Don't ignore it, but also don't panic. Get a WCAG 2.1 AA audit started right away so you have documented findings and a remediation plan in progress, since that good-faith effort matters if the dispute continues. We're not lawyers, so for the letter itself we'd recommend looping in counsel alongside the technical work.
How long does ADA remediation take?
The audit itself usually takes 1 to 2 weeks. Remediation timelines depend on what's found. Simple theme-level fixes like contrast and alt text can move quickly, while checkout forms, filters and custom app code take longer. We scope a timeline once the audit is done.
Can you document remediation as a good-faith effort?
Yes. We provide a remediation report showing what was found and fixed, plus a published accessibility statement stating your WCAG 2.1 AA conformance status, any known remaining issues, and how to contact you, which is the standard way to show provable, ongoing effort.
Which parts of a Shopify store cause most accessibility claims?
Product filters, cart and checkout forms missing ARIA labels or clear error text, low color contrast, missing image alt text, and keyboard navigation or focus issues are the most common. Shopify is also the most-targeted named platform in accessibility lawsuits, so these aren't hypothetical risks.
