About the project

Newstic Project Overview

DeveloperLook designed and built Newstic, a blog and news app where readers build a feed from the topics they follow and writers publish and track their own stories.

Newstic is a blog and news app for readers around the world who want fast, personal news. The goal was to pair the credibility of journalism with the interactivity of digital media. Readers discover trending stories, follow their favorite topics, and read across devices.

The app opens on a Newstic splash screen and a short topic picker. Readers pick the subjects they want, from crypto and travel to science and finance, then tap Build My Feed. The home screen leads with a trending story and a Following section filtered by topic chips. Explore adds trending video stories, a For You list, top authors, topic pages, and search.

Newstic is also a place to write. Authors draft in a Write News editor, check a preview, add tags, and publish. Your Stories lists every piece with its last edit, and a Statistics screen shows views, readers, followers, and daily visits split by browser and mobile.

Behind the app, an admin dashboard lets the Newstic team manage authors, posts, analytics, and ad placements. Members can upgrade for unlimited access, an ads-free experience, and audio versions of stories. The brand pairs a dotted teal logo with serif headlines in the Libre typeface and a palette of greens.

Challenge and solution

What Newstic Needed and How We Built It

The challenge

Newstic needed a reading experience that stayed clean while it carried many kinds of content.

Articles, videos, blogs, and opinion pieces all had to live in one app without crowding the screen. Personalized recommendations, dark mode, and topic categories had to fit in as well. Every screen had to balance readability, speed, and engagement.

Our solution

We designed and developed a minimal app interface where typography, contrast, and a clear hierarchy carry the reading.

Serif headlines, light backgrounds, and a fixed bottom bar for Home, Explore, List, and Profile keep each screen calm. A topic picker and AI-based topic suggestions shape each reader's feed, while push notifications and real-time updates bring new stories forward. For the Newstic team, an admin dashboard manages authors, posts, analytics, and ad placements.

What we built

Features We Built for Newstic

  • Topic picker onboarding

New readers start on a short topic screen. They follow recommended topics such as crypto, travel, and sports, or pick from science, technology, business, gaming, health, and finance, then tap Build My Feed.

  • Trending and following feed

The home screen opens with a dated header and a large trending story. The Following section below filters stories by topic chips, and each card shows its category, publish time, and comment count.

  • Explore, authors, and search

Explore mixes trending video stories, a For You list, and top authors to follow. Topic and author pages list recent stories with a Follow button, and search splits results into stories, topics, and authors.

  • Highlights and reading lists

Readers select a passage to copy or highlight it. Your Lists keeps saved stories, recent reads, and highlights in separate tabs, and saved stories can be grouped into named lists for later.

  • Threaded comments

Each story has a comment thread with replies nested under the original comment. Readers like or answer comments, expand longer threads with See more, and post their own from a field at the bottom.

  • Write News editor

Writers draft a story with a formatting toolbar and images, then check it on a preview screen where they add tags and publish. Your Stories lists every piece with the time of its last edit.

  • Story statistics for writers

A Statistics screen shows a writer's views, readers, and followers. A daily visits chart compares browser and mobile traffic, and the story list below it shows the views and comments for each piece.

  • Membership and audio stories

A membership screen offers monthly and annual plans. Members get unlimited access to all news, an ads-free experience, and an audio version of stories, while free readers see an Upgrade prompt inside member stories.

FAQ

Questions About the Newstic Project

  • We designed and developed the Newstic mobile app and its brand. The app covers topic onboarding, a home feed, Explore, article reading with highlights and comments, reading lists, a writer's editor, and story statistics. An admin dashboard for authors, posts, analytics, and ad placements runs behind it. We also designed the logo, app icon, palette, social posts, and a billboard.

  • It starts with topics. On first launch, readers follow topics from a short picker and tap Build My Feed. The home screen then filters the Following section by those topics, Explore adds a For You list, and AI-based topic suggestions recommend new subjects. Readers can also follow single topics and authors later to shape the feed.

  • Yes. Newstic works as a blog as well as a news app. Writers draft in the Write News editor, check a preview, add tags, and publish. Your Stories keeps every piece with its last edit. The Statistics screen shows views, readers, followers, and daily visits from browser and mobile, so writers see which stories find an audience.

  • Members get unlimited access to all news, an ads-free experience, and an audio version of stories they can listen to. Readers choose a monthly or annual plan on the membership screen and subscribe in the app. Free readers can still browse the feed, and an Upgrade prompt appears when a complete story is for members only.

  • Through type and restraint. Headlines use the Libre serif typeface, body text sits in a single column with strong contrast, and tools stay out of the way until a reader needs them. Copy and Highlight appear only when text is selected. A small ring shows the reading time, and likes, comments, and the listen button sit in a slim bar.

  • Yes. DeveloperLook designs and builds news and blog apps with topic onboarding, personalized feeds, comments, reading lists, and a writer's editor with statistics. We can add memberships, audio stories, and an admin dashboard for authors, posts, and ads. You tell us who reads and who writes on your platform, and we shape the screens around both groups.
