The Problem
Shopify disabled script editing on April 15, 2026 and stopped running every script on June 30, 2026. Any rule that wasn't rebuilt by then simply stopped applying at checkout.
01 · Tier prices
Wholesale tier prices stopped applying when the scripts shut off.
Tiers rebuilt on the Discount Function API, with tags and quantities you control.
02 · Shipping
Heavy items now show express rates the warehouse can't ship.
A Delivery Customization function hides rates by weight, product type, or address.
03 · Payments
Cash on delivery appears on orders it shouldn't serve.
A Payment Customization function hides or reorders methods by cart total or country.
04 · Workarounds
Staff fix prices by hand with manual discount codes.
Rules apply automatically at checkout again, with settings your team can change.
Your store ran Shopify Script Editor scripts for years, and on June 30, 2026 they stopped. Overnight, wholesale tier prices disappeared, the free gift lost its discount, and heavy items started showing express shipping. Cash on delivery came back for orders it shouldn't serve. Your team now patches orders with manual codes. Nobody remembers every rule the Ruby code handled, and the developer who wrote it may be long gone.
We start with Shopify's Scripts customizations report, any Ruby source you kept, and orders the scripts touched. Each rule then gets the narrowest replacement: a built-in discount, a Functions-powered app, or a custom Function on Plus. We test the same carts the scripts handled and compare results line by line. Your checkout behaves the way customers remember, with no Ruby left to maintain.
Every script accounted for
Each old rule ends up rebuilt, replaced by an app, or retired on purpose, not left out by accident.
Same carts, same results
Test carts that hit your old script logic are checked against the prices and options customers saw before.
Runs inside Shopify's checkout
Rebuilt rules run as Functions on Shopify's own infrastructure, so there's no Ruby code left to maintain.
Our Scripts to Functions Migration Process
You see every old rule and its planned replacement before we quote, then approve the test carts and their results before anything goes live.
We read your Scripts customizations report, any Ruby source you kept, and recent orders that carried script pricing. You get a list of every rule, what it did, and whether a ready-made replacement already exists.
What's Included
Every project covers the rules your store actually ran, across all three script types. Most combine these six parts, with native features and existing apps used before custom code.
Compare Options
An App Store app or a freelancer can rebuild a single rule well. Here's how each handles a full Shopify Scripts Functions migration across discounts, shipping, and payments.
| Feature | DeveloperLookBest fit | App Store app | Freelancer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Planning | Full script inventory first | Covers its own feature only | Starts with one script |
| Rule fidelity | Matched to old cart outcomes | Close to the old behavior | Depends on their testing |
| Plan needs | Plus for custom, apps elsewhere | Works on any plan | Usually a Plus custom app |
| Settings | Metafields your team edits | Clear app settings screen | Often hard-coded values |
| Testing | Saved carts compared line by line | Vendor's generic tests | Manual checkout checks |
| Support | 30 to 90 days included | App vendor's help desk | When they're available |
| Ownership | Your app and source code | Monthly app subscription | Yours if handed over |
| Cost | Fixed price from $750 | Lowest upfront cost | Lowest hourly rate |
Projects We've Built
Stores we built with discounts, shipping options, and payment methods at checkout. They aren't script migrations, but the same cart and pricing logic runs through each of them.
What Our Clients Say
Feedback from teams we have built online stores and websites for.
We had a pretty specific idea of what we wanted our website to become, but I wasn’t sure how easily we could explain all of it to a development team. There were quite a few moving parts, and we were working toward a deadline, so I expected a few things to get lost along the way. That never really happened. They understood what we were trying to achieve, kept us updated throughout the process, and got everything ready within the agreed timeline. The final site feels much easier to navigate, works beautifully on mobile, and is noticeably smoother for our customers. It was a huge relief seeing the original idea actually turn into the website we had in mind.
The mobile experience is probably my favourite part of the new site. We had spent a lot of time making sure the desktop version looked right, and the team kept pushing us to think about how everything would actually feel on a phone too. They were right. The navigation is clean, the interactions feel natural, and everything we’ve tested so far works exactly as it should. They also went through the links, forms, integrations, and other details more than once before launch, which I really appreciated. And even after going live, we could still reach out when something came up. The whole process felt friendly, organised, and surprisingly straightforward.
What I appreciate most is that the website is actually easy for us to manage now. We can update content ourselves instead of sending a developer a message every time we need to change something small. They also paid attention to the technical SEO side, which mattered to us because we didn’t want a new website to create problems for the traffic we already had. I’ve probably asked more questions than I should have since launch, but every question has been handled patiently and without any fuss. The team is easy to work with, they explain things clearly, and when we need something changed, they focus on getting it done rather than making the process complicated.

Work Culture
Script rebuilds fail quietly when one rule gets missed. These habits keep every rule accounted for, from the first inventory to the logs after launch.
We check Shopify's built-in discounts and existing Functions apps before writing any code. If an app already covers a rule, we'll tell you before we quote.
Every rebuilt rule is judged by the cart results your script produced, not by what seems close enough. Customers see the prices they saw before.
Related rules share one custom app instead of separate installs. Fewer apps means fewer conflicts at checkout and one place to look when something changes.
We write Functions in Rust when carts get large, as Shopify recommends, and in JavaScript where that's simpler for your team to maintain.
We review function run logs during the first weeks after rollout. Failed or slow runs get fixed before customers start emailing about prices.
The custom app, its source code, and the repository belong to your company. Another developer can pick up any rule from our notes.
Overview
DeveloperLook rebuilds the rules Shopify Scripts used to run, now that Script Editor scripts no longer execute. We inventory every line item, shipping, and payment script and map each to a native setting, an App Store app, or a custom Function. The same test carts prove the results. Projects start at $750 and take 1 to 8 weeks.

Good fit
Plus stores whose scripts went dark
Your Plus store relied on Script Editor scripts, and since the shutoff your tier prices or free-gift rules no longer apply at checkout.
Brands with wholesale or VIP pricing
Your wholesale or VIP customers got tag-based prices from a line item script, and your staff now correct their orders by hand.
Stores that hid shipping or payment options
You used scripts to hide cash on delivery, rename rates, or block express shipping for heavy items, and those rules are gone.
Teams preparing for a busy season
You patched the gaps with manual discount codes, and you want the original rules rebuilt properly before your next big sale.
Agencies managing Plus clients
Your agency manages Plus stores and needs a Shopify Scripts to Shopify Functions migration delivered under your brand, with test results to show clients.
Not a fit
Whole checkout to rebuild
You also lost checkout.liquid edits, tracking scripts, and Thank you page content. Our Checkout Extensibility Migration page covers that wider recovery.
New promotions wanted
You want brand new discount rules rather than old scripts rebuilt. Our Shopify Discount Functions Development page designs promotions from a fresh brief.
Budget under $750
Your budget is under $750, or one simple discount is all that broke. Shopify's built-in automatic discounts may cover it, and we'll say so before we quote.
No scripts were in use
Your store didn't run Script Editor scripts, but you want new checkout features. Our Shopify Plus Checkout Customization team builds those from a clean brief.

You own the client relationship. We supply the Functions engineering: script inventories, custom Function apps, and parity tests your client can review. Fixed quotes protect your margin, and every rule ships with notes your team can explain to the client.
White label: your client only ever sees your brand
Send the client's Scripts customizations report, any Ruby source, and the deadline.
You get a replacement map, a fixed quote, and dates you can promise.
Functions built, parity tests documented, and the app installed in your client's store.
Your brand on every deliverable, and no client contact unless you ask.
Discount, delivery, and payment Functions written and tested by one team.
Quotes you can resell, with no surprise invoices partway through.
Extra developers when several clients need rebuilds before the same sale.

Script migrations with DeveloperLook start at $750 for a full inventory plus up to 3 rules rebuilt with native discounts or App Store apps. A custom Functions app on Shopify Plus with up to 5 rules starts at $2,400. Libraries of up to 12 rules across all three script types start at $4,900. App subscriptions are billed by their vendors, and your price is fixed after a free inventory.
App-based rebuilds take 1 to 2 weeks, and custom Function apps take 3 to 8 weeks depending on how many rules you ran. Working out what each script did is often the slowest part when the Ruby source is lost. Parity testing takes about a week of that time.
They already don't: Scripts stopped executing on June 30, 2026, and editing or publishing them ended on April 15, 2026, according to Shopify's changelog. Every published script was deactivated on the cutoff date. Discounts, shipping changes, and payment rules that ran on the Script Editor now have to be rebuilt as Functions or replaced by apps.
Scripts let Plus stores change checkout behavior with Ruby code in three ways. Line item scripts changed prices and granted discounts, such as tiers or buy-one-get-one deals. Shipping scripts renamed, hid, reordered, or discounted shipping methods. Payment scripts renamed, hid, or reordered payment gateways. Each of those jobs now maps to a Function API or an App Store app.
Line item scripts map to the Discount Function API, or to Cart Transform when they priced bundles. Shipping scripts map to the Delivery Customization API, and payment scripts map to the Payment Customization API. Some rules need no code at all now, because Shopify's native discounts and settings already cover them.
Scripts required Shopify Plus, because the Script Editor app was available only to Plus stores, and no plan can run them now. Their replacements are more flexible: App Store apps built on Functions work on any plan, while custom apps containing Functions need Plus. The plan you need depends on whether an existing app covers your rules.
Yes, Shopify's Help Center has a migration page, and your admin keeps a Scripts customizations report. The report lists the scripts that were active before the deprecation, with suggested apps, but not exactly how each rule behaved. We pair it with order history and test carts to write a step-by-step plan for your store.
It retired the Additional scripts box and script tags on the Thank you and Order status pages. Plus stores lost them on August 28, 2025, and other plans on August 26, 2026. It's separate from Script Editor scripts, though searches for "shopify checkout scripts deprecated" mix the two. Our Checkout Extensibility Migration page covers moving that tracking to pixels.
Yes, when the rule is built that way: we store thresholds, customer tags, and checkout messages in metafields your team edits in the Shopify admin. A seasonal change then needs no code deploy. Rules handled by App Store apps keep the vendor's own settings screen, which we configure and document for you.
You do: the custom app, its Rust or JavaScript source, and the Git repository belong to your company. We document every rule next to the old script behavior and the test carts that prove it. Support lasts 30, 60, or 90 days by plan, and later rule changes get their own small fixed quote.
