The Problem
Shopify retired the old checkout code in stages. The last stage passed on August 26, 2026, and many stores only noticed when their reports went quiet.
01 · Tracking
Purchase events stopped reporting after the Thank you page upgrade.
Tracking is rebuilt as app or custom pixels and checked with test orders.
02 · Page content
Survey, affiliate, and upsell code in additional scripts no longer runs.
Each item is replaced by an app block, an app, or a pixel.
03 · Scripts
Discount and payment rules from Shopify Scripts stopped in June 2026.
Scripts logic is rebuilt as Shopify Functions and tested on tagged customers.
04 · Plus checkout
Checkout step edits from the old checkout.liquid were lost.
Plus checkout steps get them back as blocks or checkout UI extensions.
Your Meta and Google Ads dashboards show orders dropping, but Shopify shows normal sales. The purchase tags in your additional scripts stopped running when your Thank you page was upgraded. Your post-purchase survey vanished too. On Plus, the gift note field from your old checkout.liquid is gone, and your tiered discounts stopped when Shopify Scripts ended. Nothing crashed. Pieces of your checkout just quietly stopped doing their jobs.
We start by reading everything your old checkout did: code edits, additional scripts, and Scripts rules. Each item gets a supported replacement. Tracking becomes app or custom pixels, content becomes app blocks, Plus checkout edits become extensions, and Scripts logic becomes Shopify Functions. Every rebuild is tested with real orders, so your reports match your sales again.
Every old customization listed
Your old code, scripts, and tags each mapped to an app, pixel, extension, or Function.
Purchase events verified
Test orders confirm each conversion event reaches GA4, Meta, TikTok, or Google Ads again.
Scripts rebuilt as Functions
Discount, delivery, and payment rules from Shopify Scripts rebuilt on Shopify Functions.
Our Checkout Extensibility Migration Process
You see every old customization and its replacement, approve the plan, and watch test orders confirm your tracking before launch.
We review the upgrade guide in your admin, plus your old checkout code, additional scripts, and Scripts rules. You get every old customization listed with its replacement: an app, a pixel, an extension, or a Function.
What's Included
Every migration covers the audit, your tracking, and your post-purchase pages. Plus stores add checkout steps, and Scripts users add Functions.
Compare Options
Simple stores can upgrade themselves with Shopify's guide and apps, and many agencies build extensions. Here's where each option fits your checkout.

Projects We've Built
Stores our team designed and built, with discount codes, delivery dates, saved addresses, and several payment options in their buying flows.
What Our Clients Say
Feedback from teams we have built online stores and checkout features for.
We had a pretty specific idea of what we wanted our website to become, but I wasn’t sure how easily we could explain all of it to a development team. There were quite a few moving parts, and we were working toward a deadline, so I expected a few things to get lost along the way. That never really happened. They understood what we were trying to achieve, kept us updated throughout the process, and got everything ready within the agreed timeline. The final site feels much easier to navigate, works beautifully on mobile, and is noticeably smoother for our customers. It was a huge relief seeing the original idea actually turn into the website we had in mind.
The mobile experience is probably my favourite part of the new site. We had spent a lot of time making sure the desktop version looked right, and the team kept pushing us to think about how everything would actually feel on a phone too. They were right. The navigation is clean, the interactions feel natural, and everything we’ve tested so far works exactly as it should. They also went through the links, forms, integrations, and other details more than once before launch, which I really appreciated. And even after going live, we could still reach out when something came up. The whole process felt friendly, organised, and surprisingly straightforward.
What I appreciate most is that the website is actually easy for us to manage now. We can update content ourselves instead of sending a developer a message every time we need to change something small. They also paid attention to the technical SEO side, which mattered to us because we didn’t want a new website to create problems for the traffic we already had. I’ve probably asked more questions than I should have since launch, but every question has been handled patiently and without any fuss. The team is easy to work with, they explain things clearly, and when we need something changed, they focus on getting it done rather than making the process complicated.

Work Culture
Checkout is where your revenue gets counted. These habits make sure nothing your old checkout did gets lost on the way.
Checkout Blocks and your existing apps cover many old customizations. If your store only needs the upgrade guide in your admin, we'll tell you before we quote.
We read your old checkout code, additional scripts, and Scripts before planning. Hidden tags like affiliate pixels get found before they go missing.
New Functions run first for tagged test customers only. Your shoppers see new discount and payment rules after the tests pass, not before.
We compare your orders and conversion counts with the weeks before launch. A tracking gap shows up in days, not at the end of a quarter.
Extensions and Functions live in a custom app created for your store. You keep the code and the app if you ever change developers.
Retirement dates and plan limits come from shopify.dev and the Help Center at the time of work, so your plan rests on current rules.
Overview
DeveloperLook handles checkout extensibility migrations for Shopify stores that lost checkout.liquid edits, additional scripts, or Shopify Scripts. We audit what the upgrade dropped, then rebuild tracking as pixels, content as app blocks, and logic as Functions. Projects start at $650, take 1 to 6 weeks, and the code stays yours.

Good fit
Non-Plus stores past the August deadline
Your Thank you page runs on the new version since August 26, 2026, and your Meta and Google Ads purchase events stopped reporting.
Plus stores with old checkout code
Your Plus checkout once ran checkout.liquid edits for gift notes, delivery dates, or trust badges, and you want them back as extensions.
Stores that relied on Shopify Scripts
Your tiered discounts or payment rules ran on Shopify Scripts, which stopped on June 30, 2026, and you need them rebuilt as Functions.
Teams missing affiliate or survey tags
Your affiliate, post-purchase survey, or upsell tags lived in additional scripts, and you need each one replaced by an app or a pixel.
Agencies with Plus clients
Your agency manages Shopify Plus stores and needs a checkout extensibility upgrade delivered under your name, with tests your client can review.
Not a fit
Budget under $650
Your store had no checkout code, scripts, or tracking tags, and your budget is under $650. The upgrade guide in your admin covers you.
Want new checkout features
You want brand-new checkout features, not a rebuild of old ones. Our Shopify Checkout Customization page covers new blocks and fields.
Post-purchase offers only
You mainly want one-click offers after payment. Our Shopify Post-Purchase Upsell Development page covers that build on its own.
Only Meta tracking broke
Your only problem is Meta tracking, with nothing else in checkout to rebuild. Our Meta Pixel Setup for Shopify service fixes that alone.

A migration with DeveloperLook starts at $650 for your Thank you and Order status pages. That covers an audit, up to 4 rebuilt pixels, and 3 app blocks. Plus checkout step rebuilds start at $1,750. Moving Shopify Scripts logic to Shopify Functions starts at $3,800, because each rule needs building and testing.
Post-purchase pages and tracking take 1 to 2 weeks, including test orders. A Plus checkout rebuild takes 2 to 3 weeks. Moving Scripts to Functions adds 1 to 3 weeks, since each discount, delivery, or payment rule is tested with tagged customers before you switch it on.
Checkout extensibility is the set of tools Shopify uses for checkout customization: checkout UI extensions, Shopify Functions, web pixels, and branding settings. Apps add features without touching checkout code, so Shopify can update checkout safely. Shopify's developer docs now describe the upgrade path as Shopify Extensions in Checkout.
Open Settings, then Checkout, in your admin and review the upgrade guide Shopify generates for your store. It lists your old customizations, apps to check, and additional scripts to replace. Replace each one with an app, block, or pixel, test with orders, then publish. If Shopify already upgraded your pages, rebuild from the same list.
Every checkout extensibility deadline has now passed. The old code for the information, shipping, and payment steps was retired first. Thank you and Order status pages followed on August 28, 2025 for Plus and August 26, 2026 for other plans. Upgrading from checkout.liquid to checkout extensibility now means rebuilding what was lost.
Partly. Extensions on the information, shipping, and payment steps need Shopify Plus. Extensions and app blocks on the Thank you and Order status pages work on the Basic plan or higher. So a non-Plus store can restore post-purchase content and tracking, but not custom fields inside the checkout steps.
You can't anymore. Shopify retired checkout.liquid for the checkout steps and then for the Thank you and Order status pages, so no plan can turn it back on. Plus stores get the same results through Checkout Blocks, checkout UI extensions, and Shopify Functions instead, and that's how we rebuild your old edits.
Yes, through apps instead of code edits. Checkout UI extensions add fields, banners, and content, while Shopify Functions change discounts, delivery options, and payment methods. Web pixels handle your tracking. Shopify's free Checkout Blocks app covers many common needs without custom code, especially on Plus.
They stopped running. Shopify made the additional scripts field view-only on August 28, 2025, and it doesn't run on upgraded pages. Your conversion tags move to app pixels or custom pixels under Customer events, and visible content such as surveys moves to app blocks. We read your old field so nothing gets missed.
You do. We build extensions and Functions inside a custom app created in your store, and the source code goes to your repository at handover. If you change developers later, they can update the app with Shopify CLI. Apps from the Shopify App Store stay on your own subscriptions.
