The Problem
It shows up after a busy weekend, a wholesale launch, or the Scripts shutdown on June 30, 2026. Checkout runs rules nobody set, or none at all.
01 · Wrong payments
A wholesale buyer paid by card instead of net terms.
Functions control which payment methods each buyer sees.
02 · Stacked codes
Two discount codes stacked on a sale item.
Discount rules get checked before anyone pays.
03 · Retired Scripts
Your Scripts stopped on June 30, 2026, and nothing replaced them.
Logic from retired Scripts moves to supported Functions you can test.
04 · Clashing apps
Three apps add checkout blocks that clash on phones.
Checkout extensions add fields and content on the step where buyers need them.
It's Monday, and your team is fixing weekend orders by hand. A wholesale buyer paid by card instead of net terms. Two discount codes stacked on a sale item. A customer in Alaska picked a shipping option you can't deliver. The Scripts that used to stop this were deactivated on June 30, 2026, and nothing replaced them. Three apps each add a block to checkout, and they clash on phones. Every problem gets fixed after the order, when it costs the most.
We start with your rules, not your apps. Each rule gets the right tool. Shopify Functions handle discounts, payment methods, shipping options, and order validation. Checkout extensions add fields and content on the step where buyers need them. Styling goes through Shopify's Branding API, so checkout matches your store. Your rules get applied before the order is placed, not patched after it.
Rules applied at checkout
Functions check discounts, shipping, payment methods, and cart contents before anyone pays.
Scripts rebuilt as Functions
Logic from retired Shopify Scripts moves to supported Functions you can test.
Checked on real test orders
Every rule runs against test orders for your markets and payment methods.
Our Plus Checkout Process
You see every rule written, priced, and tested on a development store first. Each step ends with something you review or approve.
We review your checkout, apps, discounts, and any Scripts that stopped running. If a Shopify App Store app already covers a rule, we'll tell you before we quote. You get a written rule list and a fixed price.
What's Included
Every project covers a rule audit, custom Functions, checkout extensions, styling, and tests on real order paths, plus notes for your team.

Projects We've Built
A selection of Shopify and ecommerce stores we've built. Checkout rules only work when we understand the whole store behind them.
What Our Clients Say
Feedback from Shopify teams we have built checkouts, stores, and integrations for.
We were getting plenty of traffic, but far too many people were leaving at checkout. The buying process had simply become too complicated. The team took the time to understand where customers were dropping off, then rebuilt the checkout flow and cleaned up the shopping experience. What I really appreciated was that they didn’t just make the store look better, they actually solved the problems that were costing us sales. The whole store feels faster, simpler, and much easier to buy from now. Exactly what we needed.
We had a different kind of problem. People were visiting the store, adding products to their carts, and then disappearing before they finished the order. We had tried a few apps and made changes here and there, but nothing really seemed to solve the bigger issue. The team went through the shopping experience with us and pointed out things we hadn't really noticed ourselves. They cleaned up the cart and checkout flow, made the mobile experience much smoother, and helped us make the store feel easier to shop. I’m not going to pretend we fixed everything overnight, but it finally feels like the store is helping the sale instead of getting in the way of it.
Our old store was making it way too difficult for people to find products. We had a large catalogue, but the search, filters, and mobile navigation were frustrating customers. The team completely changed how the store handled product discovery and made the experience much easier to use on mobile. I was especially impressed by how much thought went into the customer journey rather than just the visual design. They understood what we were trying to achieve and turned it into a store that actually feels built for our customers. We’re genuinely proud of the result.

Work Culture
Checkout rules touch every order you take. Here's how we handle Plus checkout work, whether it's one Function or a full Scripts rebuild.
We write every rule as plain cases before building, such as a B2B buyer with a sale item. You approve them, so nobody guesses what checkout should do.
Discount thresholds and shipping limits live in settings, not hard-coded values. Your team adjusts them in the admin without paying for another build.
Each rule is tested against the cases on your rule map, from mixed carts to wholesale buyers. A rule that fails one case doesn't ship until it passes.
Shopify recommends Rust for Functions that must handle large carts without failing. We write heavy rules in Rust and test them against your biggest real orders.
If an App Store app with functions already covers your rule, we'll say so. You pay us only for rules no app handles well.
Your Functions and extensions ship in a custom app, with the source code handed to you. If you change developers later, nothing stops working.
Overview
DeveloperLook handles Shopify Plus checkout customization for brands whose rules don't fit the default checkout. We build Functions for discounts, shipping, payment methods, and order validation, add extensions to the checkout steps, and rebuild retired Scripts. Projects start at $1,100, starter builds go live in 1 to 2 weeks, and you own the code.

Good fit
Plus brands whose Scripts stopped running
Your discount and shipping Scripts stopped when Shopify deactivated them on June 30, 2026, and orders now skip those rules.
Plus stores on a default checkout
You pay the Plus fee every month, yet your checkout runs like a Basic store's: no custom rules, fields, or styling.
Stores weighing the upgrade to Plus
You've spoken to a Shopify Plus consultant about upgrading, and you want to know which checkout rules really need Plus first.
Wholesale and B2B teams on Plus
Your wholesale buyers need payment terms, PO numbers, and their own shipping options, while retail shoppers keep the usual checkout.
Agencies without a Functions developer
Your agency owns the client and the design, and you need Functions and extensions shipped under your brand on time.
Not a fit
One field or disclaimer
You only need one field, checkbox, or disclaimer in checkout. Our Shopify Checkout Customization service handles single extensions for less.
Offers after payment
You want one-click offers after payment, not checkout rules. Our Shopify Post-Purchase Upsell Development service builds those offers.
An app covers it
An App Store app with functions already covers your rule. Those apps work on any plan and cost less than a custom build.
Theme or storefront work
You need a Shopify Plus developer for theme or storefront work. Our Shopify Development Services page fits that, and plans here start at $1,100.

Shopify lists Plus from $2,300 per month on a 3-year term, or $2,500 per month on a 1-year term. Higher-volume businesses move to a variable fee based on revenue. Checkout work is separate: our projects start at $1,100 for styling, one custom Function, and up to 2 extensions.
A starter build with one Function and a few extensions takes 1 to 2 weeks. Larger rule sets take 3 to 5 weeks. Full Scripts rebuilds with ERP data take 5 to 8 weeks, since every old result gets matched case by case. You get dated milestones after the audit.
Plus is Shopify's plan for higher-volume and more complex businesses. It opens the checkout steps to custom extensions, runs custom apps built with Shopify Functions, and allows full checkout styling. It also adds extra stores and advanced B2B features for brands outgrowing the standard plans.
You need Plus for custom logic or content inside the checkout steps. Shopify's developer docs limit custom apps with Functions, and extensions on those steps, to Plus stores. On any plan, you can set basic branding, add thank you page content, and install App Store apps that use functions.
Plus is worth it when checkout rules, wholesale, or extra stores cost you more than the monthly fee. Brands usually choose it for custom checkout logic, B2B buyers with their own terms, and fewer orders fixed by hand. If you only need a better theme or a few apps, stay on a standard plan.
Upgrade when a plan limit starts costing you money every week. Common triggers are checkout rules you can't build, staff fixing orders by hand, wholesale buyers on a separate store, and new markets that need their own storefront. We can check whether the upgrade pays for itself before you sign.
You can start the upgrade from the Plan page in your admin or through the Plus sales team at Shopify, then accept the Plus terms. Your store, theme, products, customers, and orders stay put, so nothing needs migrating. Afterward, we audit checkout and rebuild any retired Scripts as Functions.
Yes, the Plus plan opens the whole checkout to custom work. We add extensions to any checkout step, run Functions for discounts, delivery, payment methods, and validation, and style every section through the Branding API. Other plans mostly stop at the checkout editor, App Store apps, and thank you pages.
Start in the checkout editor, where you set branding, the one-page or three-page layout, and payment methods. Then list the rules your old checkout couldn't handle, such as B2B terms or shipping limits, and decide which need a Function. We build those, and your team keeps the editor settings.
Pick a partner that has shipped your ERP before, such as NetSuite or Dynamics 365, and writes a field map before building. Ask how failed syncs get retried and who owns the integration code. Good Shopify Plus development services also tell you when an existing connector is enough.
