We had a different kind of problem. People were visiting the store, adding products to their carts, and then disappearing before they finished the order. We had tried a few apps and made changes here and there, but nothing really seemed to solve the bigger issue. The team went through the shopping experience with us and pointed out things we hadn't really noticed ourselves. They cleaned up the cart and checkout flow, made the mobile experience much smoother, and helped us make the store feel easier to shop. I’m not going to pretend we fixed everything overnight, but it finally feels like the store is helping the sale instead of getting in the way of it.

The mobile experience is probably my favourite part of the new site. We had spent a lot of time making sure the desktop version looked right, and the team kept pushing us to think about how everything would actually feel on a phone too. They were right. The navigation is clean, the interactions feel natural, and everything we’ve tested so far works exactly as it should. They also went through the links, forms, integrations, and other details more than once before launch, which I really appreciated. And even after going live, we could still reach out when something came up. The whole process felt friendly, organised, and surprisingly straightforward.
James Whitmore
Head of Marketing of Lumen Outdoor
We had a pretty specific idea of what we wanted our website to become, but I wasn’t sure how easily we could explain all of it to a development team. There were quite a few moving parts, and we were working toward a deadline, so I expected a few things to get lost along the way. That never really happened. They understood what we were trying to achieve, kept us updated throughout the process, and got everything ready within the agreed timeline. The final site feels much easier to navigate, works beautifully on mobile, and is noticeably smoother for our customers. It was a huge relief seeing the original idea actually turn into the website we had in mind.

07Work Culture
Why Businesses Trust Us With Inventory Management Builds
Getting alerts and reorder logic wrong means stockouts or wasted spend, so the rules have to match your real sell-through. These are the habits we bring to every project.
App checked first
We tell you upfront if an existing app already covers your case, before proposing custom work.
Rules matched to real sell-through
Low-stock thresholds and reorder points are set from your actual sales velocity and lead times, not a generic default.
Multi-location handled properly
Transfers and per-location counts are built to hold as your location count grows toward Shopify's limits.
Tested before it's live
Sandbox testing with real inventory and order data before your live store is touched.
Clear on what's included
You know exactly which locations, alerts, and rules are covered before development starts.
Built to be maintained
Documentation and an optional retainer so the system keeps working as Shopify's API changes.
08Overview
Who builds custom Shopify inventory management systems with low-stock alerts and multi-location tracking?
DeveloperLook builds custom Shopify inventory management, adding low-stock alerts, auto-reorder rules, and multi-location tracking on top of Shopify's own inventory model, plus customizing an inventory app you already use or pulling in ERP and 3PL data. Projects start from $1,999, most complete in 2 to 6 weeks, and we start by checking whether an existing app already covers your case.

Who it's for
Stores needing low-stock alerts and auto-reorder
Shopify tracks quantity but doesn't natively alert you at a threshold or trigger a reorder, and you're tired of checking manually.
Multi-location retailers and wholesalers
You stock across several retail locations, warehouses, or a 3PL, and need tracking and transfer logic tuned to how you actually operate.
Stores wanting to customize an existing inventory app
You're using an inventory app already, but it's missing a feature specific to your workflow that the vendor won't build.
Businesses pulling inventory data from ERP or 3PL
Your real stock numbers live in an ERP or 3PL system, and you need that reflected in Shopify's inventory rather than managed as a second, disconnected count.
Shopify Plus merchants near the location limit
You're approaching Shopify's location cap or hitting transfer complexity as your physical footprint grows.
Not a fit for
You need cross-channel sync with Amazon, eBay, Etsy, or another marketplace rather than Shopify's own inventory system. Our Multichannel Inventory Sync service covers that.
You need a full external Warehouse Management System connected rather than Shopify-side inventory logic. Our WMS Integration service covers that.
Your inventory is fully managed by an ERP like SAP, Odoo, Dynamics, or Sage, or by an outsourced 3PL. Our ERP and 3PL integration services cover those.
A free or low-cost inventory app already does what you need. We'll tell you that upfront instead of building something custom you don't need.

12FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers on Shopify inventory management, app vs custom, and multi-location tracking.
How do I change Shopify inventory location to a 3rd party warehouse?
Shopify treats a 3PL as a location like any other, so you create a location for it and transfer stock to it, with the transfer tracked as in-transit until the 3PL confirms receipt. We can also automate that transfer and reconciliation instead of doing it by hand each time.
What features should a Shopify inventory system have?
At minimum, per-location visibility, low-stock alerts at a threshold you set, and a way to see committed versus available stock. Growing stores usually also want auto-reorder rules, transfer tracking between locations, and a connection to any ERP or 3PL that holds your real stock count.
App or custom inventory system: which should I choose?
An app is usually right if your workflow matches what it assumes, low-stock alerts, standard reorder points, single-location or simple multi-location tracking. Custom work makes sense once you need rules an app doesn't support, have ERP or 3PL data to reconcile, or you're customizing an app you already use rather than replacing it.
How much does custom inventory software for Shopify cost?
Projects typically start from $1,999 for alert and reorder logic on a standard multi-location setup, and scale up with ERP or 3PL data connections, complex reorder rules, or deep customization of an existing app. You get a fixed quote after reviewing your setup.
Can I add low-stock alerts and auto reorder rules?
Yes. Shopify's own inventory API doesn't include alerting or reorder logic out of the box, so we build that layer on top, set to your actual sell-through and supplier lead times rather than a flat threshold.
Can inventory be tracked across multiple locations?
Yes, using Shopify's own per-location inventory levels, up to 10 locations on Basic through Advanced plans or 200 on Shopify Plus, with transfers between them tracked as they move.
How do you build inventory management for ecommerce with ERP or 3PL data?
We connect to your ERP or 3PL's API and reconcile its stock data against Shopify's inventory levels, so Shopify reflects your real source of truth instead of managing a second, disconnected count.
Can you customize an inventory app we already use?
In many cases yes, depending on whether the app exposes an API or webhook layer we can build against. We review your app's capabilities first and tell you honestly whether customization or a from-scratch build is the better fit.
