LET'S DISCUSSWe had a different kind of problem. People were visiting the store, adding products to their carts, and then disappearing before they finished the order. We had tried a few apps and made changes here and there, but nothing really seemed to solve the bigger issue. The team went through the shopping experience with us and pointed out things we hadn't really noticed ourselves. They cleaned up the cart and checkout flow, made the mobile experience much smoother, and helped us make the store feel easier to shop. I’m not going to pretend we fixed everything overnight, but it finally feels like the store is helping the sale instead of getting in the way of it.

The mobile experience is probably my favourite part of the new site. We had spent a lot of time making sure the desktop version looked right, and the team kept pushing us to think about how everything would actually feel on a phone too. They were right. The navigation is clean, the interactions feel natural, and everything we’ve tested so far works exactly as it should. They also went through the links, forms, integrations, and other details more than once before launch, which I really appreciated. And even after going live, we could still reach out when something came up. The whole process felt friendly, organised, and surprisingly straightforward.
James Whitmore
Head of Marketing of Lumen Outdoor
We had a pretty specific idea of what we wanted our website to become, but I wasn’t sure how easily we could explain all of it to a development team. There were quite a few moving parts, and we were working toward a deadline, so I expected a few things to get lost along the way. That never really happened. They understood what we were trying to achieve, kept us updated throughout the process, and got everything ready within the agreed timeline. The final site feels much easier to navigate, works beautifully on mobile, and is noticeably smoother for our customers. It was a huge relief seeing the original idea actually turn into the website we had in mind.

08Overview
What is Stripe Connect and how does it handle marketplace payouts?
Stripe Connect lets a marketplace collect payment once and route each vendor's share to their own account while keeping a commission for the platform. DeveloperLook implements the right charge type, destination charges for single-vendor orders or separate charges and transfers for multi-vendor carts, sets up Express onboarding with built-in KYC, and configures splits and refund handling so disputes don't leave the platform exposed alone.

Who it's for
WooCommerce or custom marketplace owners
You already have a multi-vendor storefront, like our WooCommerce Multi-Vendor Marketplace build, and need automated payment splitting instead of manually calculating and sending vendor payouts.
Multi-vendor cart platforms
Shoppers can buy from several vendors in a single checkout, and you need Stripe's separate charges and transfers model to split one payment across multiple connected accounts.
Service marketplaces
Customers pay your platform for work performed by independent providers such as contractors, freelancers, or rental hosts, and you need destination charges with an application fee for your commission.
Platforms replacing manual payouts
You're currently sending vendor payments manually via PayPal, bank transfer, or spreadsheets and need vendor onboarding, KYC, and payouts automated end to end.
Marketplaces expanding internationally
You need to onboard vendors in multiple countries and want Stripe Connect's built-in identity verification and compliance handling rather than building KYC checks yourself.
Not a fit for
If you haven't built your marketplace yet, start with our Multivendor Website Development or WooCommerce Multi-Vendor Marketplace Development page, payouts are a layer added on top of the storefront, not a replacement for it.
If you just need a single Dokan, WC Vendors, or WCFM plugin installed with its default payout settings, our WooCommerce Multi-Vendor Marketplace Development page covers that setup without custom Stripe Connect development.
If you're building a bidding or auction platform rather than a fixed-price marketplace, payment timing and deposit handling differ significantly, that's covered under auction website development instead.

What is Stripe Connect?
Stripe Connect is Stripe's infrastructure for multi-party payments. It lets a platform or marketplace route a single payment between itself and one or more connected accounts (your vendors), handling identity verification, payouts, tax reporting, and compliance for each connected account along the way.
How do marketplace payouts work with Stripe Connect?
A customer pays once, then Stripe splits the funds automatically based on the charge type you use. With destination charges, the payment lands on your platform and a portion transfers immediately to the vendor's connected account. With separate charges and transfers, you charge the platform first and create separate transfers to one or more vendors afterward, which suits multi-vendor carts.
How do I split payments between vendors and the platform?
You set an application fee amount on the charge or transfer, this is the portion Stripe keeps in your platform balance as your commission before sending the rest to the vendor's connected account. The split can be a flat fee, a percentage, or tiered by vendor or product category.
How does commission collection work?
Commission is collected automatically as part of the charge, not as a separate invoice you have to chase. Stripe deducts your application fee at the moment funds move, so you never have to manually calculate or request your cut from vendors.
How do refunds and disputes affect payouts?
For destination charges and separate charges and transfers, Stripe debits your platform balance first for any refund or dispute, then you can reverse the original transfer to recover that cost from the vendor's connected account balance. We build this reversal logic in so a dispute doesn't silently eat into your own margin.
How do I onboard vendors and handle KYC?
Stripe's hosted Connect Onboarding flow collects each vendor's business details, identity documents, and bank information, then runs KYC, AML, and sanctions screening automatically across 46+ countries. Most marketplaces use Express accounts, which give vendors a simplified Stripe-hosted dashboard while your platform still carries dispute liability.
How much does Stripe Connect integration cost?
Our builds start at $2,500 for a standard single-vendor payout flow using destination charges and Express accounts. Multi-vendor cart splitting with separate charges and transfers, or custom commission rules by category, is scoped separately. On top of our build cost, Stripe charges its own fees, typically around $2 per active connected account per month plus roughly 0.25% plus $0.25 per payout, in addition to standard card processing.
How long does payout automation take to build?
A single-vendor payout flow with Express accounts typically takes 2-4 weeks, including onboarding UI, webhook handling, and testing. Multi-vendor cart splitting, custom commission tiers, or Custom account types with a fully white-labeled onboarding experience take longer and are scoped based on your specific flow.
